The Persuaders-word choices

In the movie the Persuaders there was a man talking about the importance of word choices and the right word to use. He found what world to use to capture our interests the most. I agree with him that the right word does make a difference and can change my opinion one way or another. A good example would be with the air liner company Song. When that word, Song, is use for an air liner company it sounds stupid, unrelated to what they do, and makes me not want to know about them just from the name of the company. But on the other hand the Bluejet air liner sound much more cool and interesting and I actually know what their about from the name, it has the word jet in it. So i agree that using the right words or word does make a difference.

  1. Word usage and brand name are definitely connected. The name "Song" isn't that fitting for an airliner. Another thing is that Song was overshadowed by its parent company Delta. When people want to fly, they think of the big names in the industry that they can trust instead of some new unknown airliner they have no experience with. The reason I bring up this brand trustworthiness is because Song debuted only two years after 9/11. It's risky to advertise your airline company since people will keep being reminded of the tragedy. The ultimate downfall of Song would have to be the fact they focused on their identity rather than on their product. Their first commercial was filled with ethos persuasion and had nothing to do with an airliner. If they had a bigger budget, I wonder if they could have produced advertisements that gave the company a place in the industry AND make profit. Here is a link to an article about Song: goo.gl/RqEkMm

  2. I agree with what you are saying Eric. The use of a word can definetely change the way somebody looks at something. Song airlines didn't sound too appealing to me. Also when they asked other people what they thought of Song or knew what it was, they said "No." They had stores in the malls that I believed were to be a waste. They didn't do to much but try to advertise there. I don't believe that they were selling tickets or anything. I think they were just letting people know who they were. They hired a new advertising team to try and help them lift off and be more popular. So they started telling people that they are Song. That just sounds kind of strange to me saying that you are Song. Words are very powerful in this world and for a business, it's even stronger.

  3. I aree with you but at the same time aren`t they saying not only by the words of what you know about the company i mean if a company is named Blue jet i thinking of airplane anyway but because i don`t that much about them i wouldn`t use their services just becuase i don`t know what they are about and the only way i would use them is for a deal or i had no other choice so i agree with the guy from persuaders that advertising works and helps me find out with other companies
