When it comes to the characters from one that flew over the cuckoo`s nest and cool hand Luke is that Luke out f cool hand Luke they are able to bring the group of people together and care about each other and really unite all of the other characters in the movie and the same with McMurphy they are able to get all the characters to care about each other plus both of them refuse to follow the so called rules and refuse to follow plus they unmind  the boss but sometimes they end up as the example to the group when it comes to trying to control the group but they don`t stop trying and still define authority and do what they want

  1. McMurphy and Lucas truly show a lot of charisma and wit. I agree that they create their own authority and help the prisoners/patients find the courage to face mistreatment and stay strong. Both men prove themselves and gain respect by playing cards or fighting. They also both "stand out" in a way even though they have different personalities: McMurphy is a loud, sarcastic hulking figure. On the other hand, Lucas keeps to himself but has a smart mouth and quick wit. These characters overall have a sense of humor, are persistent in their ways, and have willpower to stand against those with authority.

  2. Luke and McMurphy are very similar in my point of view. They are both the type characters who rebel against authority. McMurphy had the other mental patients turn on Nurse Ratched. Luke had all of his inmates help him escape numerous times. McMurphy also had that period of time where he stopped his rebelling for a portion of the novel. Luke also stopped rebelling against the guards and took every ounce of pain that the guards would give him. He couldn't fight back. He stayed nights and days in the box, he kept digging and putting back dirt, and he did all the other street/yard work the other entire prisoners do. McMurphy was a little different that Luke in some ways. McMurphy liked being the person who everyone looked up to. While Luke liked to be quiet and on the down low of things. Luke was the kind of character who didn't really care anymore. He basically just wanted to die and took everything the guards threw at him.

  3. The similaritys between McMurphy and Luke is that they both take a stand and rebel against authority. It is in there nature to not conform to society, which is the reason both Mcmurphy and Luke get put in the ward/prison and that is the same reason for why they die in the end. Both McMurphy and Luke also take a role as the leader and all the inmate in the ward/ the prisoners follow their lead and look up to them. As well as being the leader of the group, they always never give up and will keep fighting back even if they now they cant win. To top thing off Luke and McMurphy were the best card players there were.
