Racial Issues
To start off i think race is a hard topic to talk about, it just makes people uncomfortable. with that said I think we as society would like to think that racism has stopped but i think it really hasn't. I also think there are lots of racial stereotypes too. Not trying to be racist but here are some that I have heard, Blacks can run fast and jump high, they are good at football and basketball, and can't swim. On the other hand here are some stereotypes for whites, they cant jump, all like hockey, and are smart. so if these racial stereotypes are still said then we are still racist. Also saying someone is racist is a huge problem in society. People say "that's racist" or "Your Racist" well so, I don't care. Here is a question for you how come black people can say nigger to each other and its fine, but when a white person says it to a black person, even if he was quoting someone, it is the biggest deal ever? So If black people call themselves niggers, then that leaves me to think that they truly are. Just don't say that word white or black, it is wrong to say it no matter what.

People judge others a lot, and if they know your racial backgrounds then they will also have assumptions. Stereotypes are what causes most of these assumptions. They can be positive or negative stereotypes but they are always overgeneralized and don't apply to the entire race. So why do some people still believe and spread these views? They could have picked it up from their parents or guardians. Another thing is that people may usually tend to favor their race over others. How does one justify such a thing? You could say that it is just natural since it is harder to identify with someone of a different race. We can see this in public schools where people often form social groups with their own race. I hope in the future that there can be more interracial friendships within high schools based on common interests.
ReplyDeleteI understand where you are coming from Eric and why you say the word nigger is wrong but something that i guess you haven`t heard eventho it doesn`t make the calling of the word any better but what black people say to each other is nigga but a it doesn`t make it any better plus race is such a touchy subject because people are not sure how people are going to react to how someone else feels and are not sure if someone else feels the same way
ReplyDeleteI believe that racism is still relevant today. It has definitely died down over the years but it is still out there. I don't like the whole racism thing. I believe that everyone is equal and it doesn't matter what color skin you are. Like back during the segregation of the 1950s, black people were not allowed to sit together with whites or anything. They couldn't eat together, go to school together, or even use the same drinking fountains. I think that is just stupid. I don't understand why there are some people who are still racist. Also we have cities divided up on where blacks, whites, Latinos, Asians, etc live. Detroit mainly has black people living there and I just think its awful how all of these places are split up.
